Danger Rat

Danger Rat is an infinite runner about a rat falling through hell. The game was a submission to Ludum Dare 48. The game is currently available for download on itch.io.

My Involvement

I created a system for procedurally generating levels and created a tool so that designers could design new sections of the level easily and intuitively. I also reworked and tuned the movement system to create a satisfying gameplay loop. The game was created with Unreal Engine 4 using Blueprint.

Post Mortem

Overall I'm quite proud of Danger Rat and what we were able to get done in the 72 hours given. The game was fun and the movement system, 3D backgrounds, and music all turned out amazingly. We were able to submit a functional and quite fun game despite our large team size due to excellent communication and planning. 


However, the game was by no means perfect. It had several game-breaking bugs that while they did not always appear could very much ruin the experience. Several features did not end up in the final product due to last-minute bugs appearing and a lack of time to fix them. However, if we had managed our time a little better or just had more practice with game jams I believe that Danger Rat would have been in the running for one of the top games of the jam.
